India get a tit for tat...Lankans reply strongly...take 2nd day honours of the Ahmedabad test...

Sri Lanka reply strongly to the challenge of India. At stumps on day 2 of the Ahmedabad test Sri Lankan team was breathing a sigh of relief and were comfartably placed with 275 runs on the board losing only 3 wickets in the interium. Earlier the Indian tail was denied a wag by a disciplined bowling of the Lankan bowlers to finish off the Indian innings on 426. Resuming at the overnight score of 385 for 6, India managed to add only 41 runs and were bundled out for 426. Dravid didnt trouble the scorers and departed when only 4 runs were added to the overnight score, but none to his account. He was dismissed by Welegedara for 177 off 261 deliveries with 26 fours and a six. Harbhajan and Zaheer showed some resistence which was not for enough time. With figures of 4 for 87 Welegedera was the most successful bowler for the lankans followed by Murali who claimed 3 wickets giving out 97  runs.

In reply the Lankans started pretty good putting on 74 runs for the first wicket in 17 overs. Paranawithana was the first scalp for India claimed by Ishant. He made useful 35 runs off 55 deliveries before Dhoni caught him behind off Ishant. At the other end Dilshan was looking in fine knick and was joined by his captain Sangakkara. They moulded the good start given further and put on 115 valuable runs for the 2nd wicket..in quick time as well.Dilshan departed for a 133 ball 112 consisting 12 hits to the fence…which was the core of the Sri Lankan score board on day 2. In the 43rd over of their innings he was caught by Dravid off Zaheer. 2 overs later Zaheer struck for the 2nd time and had Sangakkara caught by Sachin for a score of  31. The Lankan score was 194 for 3. Samaraweera joined Jayawardhana and remained undefeated at stumps after having added an unbroken partnership of 81 runs for the 4th wicket. Jayawardhana and Samaraweera made 36 and 45 runs respectively and were looking strong and determined to take the Lankan score past that of India’s.

Will Sri Lanka go past the Indian score and take a formidable lead? Whether India is going to bounce back and rattle off the Lankan tail? We will wait and watch…on day 3. But the day 2 honours goes to Dilshan……
