Star Wars The Old Republic

Late in the year of 2008, some time in October SWTOR: Star Wars The Old Republic was announced to be underdevelopment. Instantly Star Wars Galaxies leapt to mind, but the fear and apprehension of another Star Wars MMO failure was washed away in the knowledge of knowing that Bioware creators of the game of the year KOTOR: Knights of The Old Republic were also working on this MMO sequel of sorts. We all remember kotor right? The best Star Wars game byte for byte, great story, great game mechanics, and great reception! The game was just great!

Many may wonder how SWTOR may fair alongside World of Warcraft, Warhammer, and Guild Wars. Well the truth is it is shaping up to be quite a game maybe even one to dethrone WoW. The official site for SWTOR can be quoted saying “SWTOR will be similar to other mmos but with several key innovations.” One of those innovation being something that bioware does well, telling a great story, meaning maybe we the player can escape from the killing of spiders for their venom sacs only to find out we need 12 of their legs as well only to find out it meant absolutely nothing to the overall story of the game.

Now we know about SWTOR in comparison to other MMOs but what about SWTOR compared to other Star Wars stories particularly its name sake? Well the games time line is 300 years after kotor and 3500 before Darth Vader lots of room for couple million sith jedi bounty hunters and the like to run rampant. More importantly, time for the Republic and Sith have strike up treaty and live a little to close together and 300 years is a long time so don’t expect to see any familiar faces to help you save a droid or two, but Bioware says to expect on seeing legacies of those gone. This game is ballooning in size too, the planet list is growing, and the factions are set the Sith Empire and Sith Lords and the Republic and Jedi Order. All of which are populated with their own classes and so far that includes troopers, smugglers, jedi knights, jedi consulars, bounty hunters, sith warriors, sith inquisitors, and imperial agents. We will cover class specifics as they come out in another post.

Right now this game looks really damn good and game tester sign up has begun. Believe me when I say this is without a doubt a game to keep an eye out for.
